Association of Chronic Rhinosinusitis and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in Sputum of Patients With Non-Cystic Fibrosis Bronchiectasis
Puntos clave
To investigate the relationship between chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and the presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in sputum cultures of patients with bronchiectasis.
Conducted sputum cultures for Pseudomonas aeruginosa in patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis.
Compared culture results with patients' histories of chronic rhinosinusitis.
Found a significant association of CRS history with positive sputum cultures for Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
No association was noted with Staphylococcus aureus or Haemophilus influenzae.
Resumen
We report an association of history of CRS and sputum culture positivity for P. aeruginosa (but not S. aureus or H. influenzae) in people with bronchiectasis.
