Abstract We have advanced the research and development of injection-seeded terahertz (THz) parametric generation and detection as a widely tunable, and coherent THz wave source and receiver, and have applied this technology to non-destructive spectroscopy and imaging through thick shielding materials. In recent years, several notable discoveries and technical advances have been made in THz parametric generation and detection. In this review, we summarize these developments and our recent progress. In chapter 1, we review spectrally pure THz-wave generation using an injection-seeded THz parametric generator (is-TPG) by suppressing broadband noise. In chapter 2, we show that THz parametric detection exhibits exceptionally high tolerance to the incidence angle of the THz wave, enabling detection over an extremely wide range of angles. In chapter 3, we demonstrate a new is-TPG configuration in which the pump and seed beams are injected collinearly, achieving efficient and widely tunable THz generation under collinear injection.
