Manufacturing systems in Nigerian plants are critical for economic development but face significant operational challenges due to unreliable equipment and processes. This study employs multilevel regression analysis to assess the impact of operational conditions, maintenance practices, and technological infrastructure on manufacturing system reliability across different levels of plant hierarchy. The data for this study were collected from a survey of 100 Nigerian plants over a period of one year. The analysis revealed that proper maintenance practices significantly improved system reliability by reducing the frequency of equipment failures (35% reduction in failure rate). Multilevel regression analysis provided valuable insights into understanding and improving manufacturing system reliability in Nigerian plants, offering a robust framework for future research. Plant managers should prioritise regular maintenance schedules to enhance overall system performance and reduce operational downtime.
