This issue of AACN Advanced Critical Care represents a significant milestone in the journal’s history. For some of you, this is a familiar and trusted resource that you have relied on for many years. For those of you who are new to and unfamiliar with the journal, let me provide a brief background. This is the beginning of the 37th year of this quarterly publication, which was published first under the title AACN Clinical Issues in Critical Care Nursing, then AACN Clinical Issues: Advanced Practice in Acute and Critical Care, and finally AACN Advanced Critical Care.1The journal was created to provide advanced in-depth acute and critical care clinical content to meet the needs of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) members and beyond, particularly advanced practice nurses, critical care educators, and experienced critical care nurses. Originally, each issue of the journal was dedicated to a single symposium series on a topical theme. In the late 2000s, based on reader, AACN member, and key stakeholder feedback, the format transitioned, so that each issue still contained a smaller theme-based symposium series of solicited articles but also included 8 recurring columns as well as unsolicited manuscripts. Our content spans advanced pathophysiology and pharmacological content, analysis and generation of evidence in advancing optimal patient care, leadership in acute and critical care nursing and the environment, professional development and roles, and considerations for addressing the ethically complex care of critically ill patients, among other topics. The journal has always been subscription-based, available to AACN members at a reduced rate. This issue marks our first as an AACN member benefit. All AACN members can now access AACN Advanced Critical Care for free digitally or for a nominal subscription rate in print format. This change significantly expands the reach of our content not only moving forward but also through AACN member access of our digital archive, which contains years’ worth of extremely useful content. Regardless of whether the journal is a familiar resource or a new benefit, I hope you will see it as a consistent valuable resource for clinical content that is directly applicable to your acute and critical care nursing practice. We look forward to your engagement with the journal, whether it is through being a consumer of the information, contributing your expertise through submitting articles for publication consideration, or volunteering your time as a peer reviewer. Welcome to AACN Advanced Critical Care!
