Background Although there are various factors that contribute to stress fractures, in female athletes, persistent low energy availability (LEA) is known to cause hypothalamic amenorrhea and osteoporosis (female athlete triad; FAT) and increase the risk of stress fractures. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between the number of each FAT sign and history of stress fracture by sports categories.
