Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a potentially life-threatening condition that is commonly diagnosed with duplex ultrasound (DUS) examination. The European Union has begun using artificial intelligence driven hardware to rule out DVTs, and similar technology is currently undergoing US Food and Drug Administration approval in the United States. To better understand the possible implication of adopting these technologies, we sought to understand the economic impact of negative DUS examination at a large multihospital academic health care system.
