Rural communities in South Africa face significant challenges in digital access and utilization, exacerbating economic disparities. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys (N=500) and qualitative interviews to assess community needs and preferences. Survey results indicate that approximately 42% of rural households have limited or no access to the internet, with a significant gap in digital literacy skills among youth. The findings underscore the urgent need for tailored digital inclusion strategies that integrate policy support for infrastructure development and community-driven education initiatives. Develop targeted broadband expansion plans, implement subsidized training programmes for rural residents, and foster partnerships between government entities and private sector organizations to accelerate digital equity.
