This commentary explores how music has served as a significant form of political expression during transitions in Mauritius and beyond North Africa. A comparative qualitative approach was employed, drawing from case studies of Mauritius and other relevant regions that underwent significant political changes through music as a medium. The analysis underscores the importance of integrating arts into studies of political transitions, highlighting how they can serve as powerful tools for societal engagement and transformation. Future research should consider incorporating more diverse musical genres to provide a comprehensive understanding of their impact across different cultural contexts. Policy makers could also benefit from recognising music's potential in fostering dialogue and community cohesion during transition periods.
