Study of Degree College Teacher Education Curriculum in the Context of Education for Sustainable Development

Abstract In an increasingly interconnected world, the role of education in the sustainable development of nations has become essential. Quality education and effective teacher preparation are vital in shaping future generations capable of addressing contemporary challenges. This study investigates the current degree college teacher education curriculum through the lens of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), which is pivotal for fostering the knowledge, values, and behaviors necessary to create a sustainable future. As traditional development models have led to numerous global issues, including environmental degradation and social inequality, there is a growing need for a curriculum that emphasizes sustainable practices. The research emphasizes that well-prepared teachers, aware of sustainability concepts, can significantly influence students’ attitudes and understanding of global citizenship, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. This study explores the integration of ESD principles into degree college teacher education, assessing its potential to equip teachers with the skills needed to impart sustainability-focused education effectively. Quality higher education should aim to develop excellent, thoughtful, well-rounded, and creative individuals. A deep level of interest in special areas and develop character, moral and constitutional values, intellectual curiosity, scientific temper, creativity, service spirit including science, social sciences, humanities, languages, personal, technical and professional subjects, the new education policy brings. There are some fundamental changes in the current system and highlights. Multidisciplinary universities and colleges, with at least one in or near each district, updating student curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and student experience, establishing national research and supporting excellent peer-reviewed work are effectively studied in foundation universities.
