ABSTRACT A case of dematiaceous keratomycosis is reported because of its rarity in medical literature. Since it masquerades as a foreign body, it offers a diagnostic dilemma to eye care professionals. A case diagnosed elsewhere as an adherent vegetable corneal foreign body presented to us for treatment. He had decreased vision and watering in the affected eye. A raised brown colored plaque rested on the patient’s cornea. The foreign body was removed by superficial keratectomy and diagnosed as dematiaceous fungal keratitis by histopathological examination. Awareness about dematiaceous keratomycosis goes a long way in making a correct diagnosis and instituting meaningful management.
