The paper tests whether two local dynamical EEG measures, reachability and Jacobian magnitude, distinguish canonical sleep stages in ANPHY-Sleep. Reachability robustly separates Wake, REM, and N2 from N3, while Jacobian magnitude is weaker and more selective. The study also shows that the effect is not easily reduced to standard spectral or complexity-based EEG features. The result supports a bounded claim about state structure rather than a direct measure of consciousness.
