At present, National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute”—IHEP has developed an original technique for absolute calibration of ionization chambers with activation detectors, when working with extracted beams of accelerated carbon ions of clinical energies of 150–450 MeV/nucleon. A low-background radiometric setup operating on the principle of γ–γ coincidences and an activation detector made of pure carbon with natural mixture of isotopes and the 12C(12C, X)11C reaction are used. To increase the accuracy of this technique, experimental values of the cross section of the 12C(12C, X)11C reaction at energies of 450 and 400 MeV/nucleon have been obtained at the U-70 accelerator complex. A comparison with existing world data is performed, and it is shown that the result obtained is in satisfactory agreement with them.
