The rapidly evolving educational paradigm driven by the dynamic development of digital technologies, the exponential growth of information, and the emergence of new tools for processing and delivering knowledge has profoundly transformed foreign language (FL) instruction. The creation of digital learning environments, electronic resources, and web-based educational formats has generated new demands for the digitalization and transformation of FL teaching. This article presents an integrative literature review exploring scholars’ perspectives on the opportunities and challenges of digital transformation in FL education. It examines how educators and learners adapt to the realities of the ICT era and how technological advancements reshape teaching and learning processes. The findings reveal that innovative digital tools—such as digital storytelling, immersive environments, and massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) – offer significant potential to enhance learner engagement and performance. However, their effective implementation is often hindered by the absence of a coherent scientific and pedagogical foundation. Consequently, the article highlights the importance of developing digital linguodidactics as a comprehensive framework for integrating theoretical and practical aspects of technology-enhanced FL education. Establishing such a foundation would ensure systematic, scalable, and evidence-based pedagogical strategies that fully harness the potential of digital transformation in language teaching and learning
