Abstract We discuss the main arguments given by Nores et al. (Conservation Science and Practice, 2024, 6, e13221) that uphold the inappropriateness of (re)introducing the wisent ( Bison bonasus ) in Spain, and we propose an alternative interpretation of the facts and empirical data currently available. In our view, there is still no conclusive data, neither paleontological nor ecological, that would allow establishing the appropriateness or otherwise of its introduction, although our interpretation is that current evidence would point to conclusions contrary to those of these authors.
