Molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) and hypomineralised second primary molars (HSPM): do we need to alter terminology and definition? A scoping review
Puntos clave
The aim is to evaluate whether the current definitions for molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) and hypomineralised second primary molars (HSPM) need revising to incorporate asymmetry and other dental issues.
Conducted a scoping review to gather existing literature on MIH and HSPM.
Analyzed current terminology and definitions surrounding these dental conditions.
Investigated the implications of asymmetry in tooth development.
Identified gaps in the current terminology that exclude asymmetry.
Proposed modifications to definitions that could enhance understanding of these conditions.
Found a need for greater inclusion of other types of teeth affected.
Resumen
It may be timely to reconsider the definition and terminology currently in use to include the concept of asymmetry and the involvement of other types of teeth.
