A programme of archaeological watching brief and mitigation was commissioned by Kinloss Abbey Trust during two phases of their ongoing work at Kinloss Abbey. These were the consolidation of historic vaults on the north side of the Abbots House and the insertion of a new information board just to the east of the site entrance. Both phases were grated scheduled monument consent (SMC) by HES prior to commencement while the new board was also subject to planning from Moray council (23/01291/ADV). The insertion of the new information board was covered under SMC 300063827 and involved the excavation of two small holes to fix a new signboard into. The excavation was undertaken under archaeological supervision on the on 21st November 2023. There were no features uncovered deemed to be of archaeological significance, therefore, no further work is recommended for this phase of the development.
