Evaluation at Proposed sensory garden site south of High Street

Three small test pits were excavated within part of the 'open spaces' Scheduled Monument in central Rochester. The pits successfully located the course of the Roman wall as it turns the south-east corner of the Roman town before running north-westwards towards the Castle site. It also located the wall along the east side of a medieval extension to the town, established to increase the area of the Cathedral/priory. Finds were predominantly later post-medieval, with only two or three floor tiles potentially being of very late medieval or early post-medieval date.
