In January 2008 ARCUS were commissioned by Severn Trent Water to undertake a desk-based archaeological assessment of land in the village of Belton, Leicestershire as part of plans for new sewage pumping facilities for the village. The assessment included a site visit together with documentary and cartographic research. The desk- based assessment indicates that the proposal area contains considerable earthwork remains of Beltons medieval open fields and, in particular, two surviving areas of piecemeal enclosure probably carried out in the immediate post-medieval period.
