ECR Spotlight is a series of interviews with early-career authors from a selection of papers published in Journal of Experimental Biology and aims to promote not only the diversity of early-career researchers (ECRs) working in experimental biology but also the huge variety of animals and physiological systems that are essential for the ‘comparative’ approach. Marie Merle is an author on ‘ The hidden sweet tooth of the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens)’, published in JEB. Marie is a Postdoc in the lab of Dr Jonathan Filée at Institut Diversité Écologie et Évolution du Vivant (IDEEV), Université Paris-Saclay, France, investigating the genomic and transcriptomic signatures of insect chemosensory evolution in response to varying ecological traits and niches.
