This study investigates the startup ecosystem and innovation dynamics in three adjacent districts of western Maharashtra—Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara. While India’s broader startup ecosystem has grown rapidly under the Startup India initiative, district-level analysis remains limited. Drawing on official DPIIT recognition data, policy developments, industry initiatives, and local entrepreneurial activity, this paper examines startup counts, innovation-oriented infrastructure, sectoral strengths, and ecosystem challenges. The analysis highlights patterns of entrepreneurial emergence, government support, and barriers such as infrastructure, skills, and connectivity. The paper concludes with policy recommendations to strengthen localized innovation ecosystems.
