The integration of digital technology in nursing education has profoundly transformed teaching and assessment practices, particularly in response to evolving healthcare demands and the increasing need for flexible, learner-centered environments. This study aimed to examine the utilization of digital technology in the assessment of learning among nursing students and its implications for academic performance and clinical competence through a comprehensive synthesis of existing scholarly evidence. Adopting a systematic literature review research design, the study analyzed peer-reviewed journal articles, academic publications, and credible database sources to identify prevailing trends, outcomes, and challenges associated with digital assessment in nursing education. Findings from the reviewed literature consistently revealed that digital assessment tools, such as learning management systems, online quizzes, virtual simulations, and electronic portfolios, significantly enhance the efficiency and quality of evaluation processes. These technologies facilitate timely and constructive feedback, increase student engagement, and promote self-directed learning, all of which are essential components in the development of competent nursing professionals. Moreover, digital platforms enable the assessment of higher-order thinking skills, including critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and decision-making, thereby aligning evaluation practices with the complex demands of contemporary healthcare settings. Thematic synthesis of the literature further indicated that digital assessment fosters accessibility, flexibility, and reflective practice among nursing students. Learners benefit from the ability to access assessments remotely, review feedback continuously, and engage in iterative learning processes that support skill mastery. However, the literature also highlights persistent challenges, including technological limitations, disparities in digital literacy, and concerns regarding academic integrity in online environments. These issues underscore the need for strategic interventions to ensure equitable and reliable assessment practices.
