To improve thermal efficiency of combustors, applying electric fields to combustion is a one of the promising ways. Since the re-distribution of charged species is supposed to have influence on the flame propagation, flame structure and spatial profiles of active species profile in electric fields need to be understood. In this research, flame deformation and heat release rate were evaluated, applying DC electric fields to the laminar premixed flame parallel to the flame propagation direction. The results indicate that heat release rate may decrease in the electric field applied to the flame although flame thickness does not change.
