Extract We read the recent article by Tan et al. 1 entitled “Concavity of the maximal expiratory flow–volume curve, and incidence of COPD and respiratory symptoms: a population-based cohort study”, published in ERJ Open Research. This is an intriguing study demonstrating that the concavity indices, central concavity and peripheral concavity, are useful markers for assessing the future risk of respiratory symptoms.
