A viscosity prescription for a self-gravitating accretion disc⋆

We propose a prescription for treating the transfer of angular momentum within a gaseous differentially rotating disc subject to gravitational instability in terms of an effective kinematic viscosity. We show that under certain conditions this prescription allows a similarity solution and that all solutions tend towards this at large times.
