To assess the effectiveness of ensitrelvir as postexposure prophylaxis against Covid-19 in household contacts.
Randomized trial design with household contacts of confirmed Covid-19 cases.
Participants received ensitrelvir after potential exposure to the virus.
Primary outcome measured was the incidence of symptomatic Covid-19.
Ensitrelvir reduced the incidence of symptomatic Covid-19 by 60% compared to placebo (p<0.01).
N=300 participants with 150 receiving ensitrelvir and 150 receiving placebo.
Effectiveness was further supported by a significant decrease in viral load in treated individuals.
