Resumen

An archaeological trench evaluation was undertaken by AC archaeology during September 2025 on land at Carn Thomas, St Mary's, Isles of Scilly. The evaluation comprised the machine excavation of five trenches, totaling 47m in length, with each trench 1.8m wide. This was carried out ahead of a proposed residential development. A large proportion of the site had been extensively terraced as a result of a former school that had previously occupied the site. Trenches were positioned to target areas of proposed development outside of the existing terracing. These exposed only modern soils sealing the natural subsoil. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed, and no pre-modern finds were recovered.
