The aim of the archaeological monitoring was to identify and record any archaeological remains revealed during the groundworks. A single, shallow trench was machine-excavated under the supervision of a CAT archaeologist. Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out at B Sports Ground, Abbey Field, Circular Road North, Colchester, Essex during groundworks for emergency repairs to a faulty underground electrical cable. Despite being in an area where Roman burial, occupation and settlement evidence had previously been recorded, groundworks only cut through a layer of topsoil.
