This essay describes a new approach to single-case analysis, the morphological study of verbatim texts. Such studies are designed to open up facets of human behaviour to systematic investigation, especially emotions and social relationships, that have been ignored in scientific studies up to this point. Examples of the relevant single-cases studies are suggested in three areas: type A behaviour and heart disease, expressed emotion and mental illness and emotions and social relationships in anorexia.
