A novel force-commutated three-level boost-type rectifier is proposed. The rectifier draws nearly sinusoidal current from the utility with unity fundamental power factor. High reliability is possible due to its shoot-through free structure. Doubled DC bus voltage compared to a normal single-level rectifier is also possible because of the neutral point clamping. The operating principle, steady state analysis, input current and neutral point voltage control schemes, and detailed experimental results are presented.>
