This study investigated the ancient coating technology of Sigiriya, a 5th-century Sri Lankan rock fortress, through a detailed literature review and compositional analysis. Key materials, including Sesame oil, Dorana oil, Hal Dummala, and plant gums, were subjected to compositional analysis through modern chemical studies. This study opens opportunities for future studies focused on environmentally friendly coatings, contributing to the development of sustainable and long-lasting materials, beyond simple historical replicas.
