Production-oriented approach (POA) adopts a three-step of teaching process of “motivating-enabling-evaluating”, and integrates teaching concepts of “Learning centered”, “Learning -using integrated” and “Whole-person education” throughout the teaching process. And with the rapid development of AI and network technology, the Blended Learning (BL) came into being as online self-learning has become an inevitable learning trend. BL is an “online + offline” learning that combines the advantages of online and traditional learning. This research explores the applicability of POA and BL in College Intensive Reading Course. Students' feedback and the teacher's reflection after one unit of teaching experiment show that: compared with traditional teaching methods of Intensive Reading lessons, this teaching mode combined with POA and BL is more effective, flexible and interesting, arousing students' enthusiasm for learning, cultivating students' abilities of language output, autonomous learning, group cooperation and critical thinking and etc. The new model of POA can effectively transform the input material from the received knowledge to the output knowledge by offering students the scenarios and task requirements and assessments to stimulate students' enthusiasm and creativity to complete the output task and assessment to a great extent. It improves the efficiency of English learning and promotes the comprehensive skills of college English majors. Meanwhile, BL can expand classroom resources and learning time and space, and the application of multi-modal media on the online learning platform also brings more fun and efficiency to learning and assessment. The combination of the two makes the teaching effect significant. Some difficulties and challenges are also discovered in implementation of POA and BL. Therefore, the joint efforts of the school and teachers are needed in the future teaching research and practice.
