Petrobras long term ambition is to neutralize GHG emissions in activities under its control (scope 1 and 2) by 2050 and influence partners to achieve the same ambitions in non-operated assets. In the refinery sector, Petrobras goal is to reduce GHG intensity to 36 kg CO 2 e/CWT by 2025 and to 30 kg CO 2 e/CWT by 2030. The Complexity Weighted Tonne (CWT) approach is used to benchmark CO 2 emissions from refineries. This ambitious goal will be achieved through initiatives related to strong operational management, optimization and improvements in energy performance, including changing thermopower technology, electrification of rotating equipment drivers, process integration and optimization, flare loss reduction and recovery and energy matrix changes. All these initiatives, which will be detailed in the paper, including new projects, associated to alternative hydrogen production and renewable power generation projects, drive to significant reduction in natural gas consumption.
