Composition and field-orientation dependence of magnetoelectric (ME) parameters have been investigated in of bulk and multilayer composites. Studies were performed on nickel ferrite--barium lead zirconate titanate (BLZT) and modified nickel ferrite--BLZT. The modification involved the addition of cobalt oxide to the ferrite and titanium oxide to the bulk composite that resulted in orders of magnitude increase in the resistivity of bulk composites and an enhancement in the strength of ME voltage coefficient. The longitudinal ME effect is found be weaker than the transverse effect and is attributed to demagnetization fields in the ferrite.
