As medicine has become increasingly scientific and critical of proof anecdote, the randomized clinical trial has become the standard technique altering diagnostic or therapeutic methods. The authors analyze the ethical dilemmas inherent in such trials, principally because of the exclusivity of the roles of physician and scientist. While that a return to physician intuition as the basis of medical would be dangerous, they argue that the development of alternative of acquiring clinical information should be explored. (KIE)
