The Nature of Suffering and the Goals of Medicine

The nature and causes of suffering in patients are described, using as an example, and a distinction between suffering and physical is drawn. The nature of personhood is explored in terms of the factors that make someone what he is and that influence his. Physicians are urged to understand and relieve suffering in their, and to recognize that medical intervention sometimes fails to suffering and becomes a source of suffering itself. (KIE)
