SUMMARY The function obtained by formally solving a differential equation is shown to describe, in a sense, the transient behaviour of a diffusion process. Interpretations of other solutions of the equation (obtained by a different allocation of constants) are mentioned. An analogous function for the case of a certain discrete process is exhibited.
