Abstract : The paper deals with an interpretation of certain temporal characteristics of recall following varying amounts of reinforcement of the learning of a list of words. The specific purpose of the study is to apply an analysis to a situation in which groups of subjects, given varying numbers of presentations of a list of stimulus-words, were asked to recall as many as they could. Special concern is with the testing of a conclusion that the rate of production of items at any time is a function of the number of remaining items available for recall.
