Resumen

The works comprised the hand excavation and recording of 18 trial pits located at various locations around the east range building, the toilet block and the gym. Archaeological deposits comprising sandstone and brick walls were present in trial pits 4, 7, 8, 13 and 19, many corresponding with structures featured on 19th century maps. A cobbled surface was identified in trial pit 8, disturbed remnants of which were also in trial pits 9 and 11. Successive post-medieval levelling deposits were identified across all trail pits. A small assemblage of post-medieval pottery sherds, animal bone, an iron object and ceramic tobacco pipe were recovered from levelling deposits.
