An impression one receives from this symposium is the difference in detail of our understanding of protein synthesis in eukaryotes in comparison to prokaryotes. Although the general models for control of protein synthesis derived from microbial genetics appear to be applicable to all living forms, the complexity and lack of well-defined systems have hindered progress in this area in higher organisms.
