These three volumes constitute a major contribution to researchers and physicians interested in the growth and development of humans. In a convenient manner, they bring together the results of a vast amount of research that deals directly with the subject and should be especially valuable for pediatricians, obstetricians, and family physicians. The volumes contain 59 chapters written by more than 80 authors, approximately half of whom are foreign authorities. Volume 1 is entitledDevelopmental Biology, Prenatal Growth; volume 2,Postnatal Growth, Neurobiology; and volume 3,Methodology, Ecological, Genetic and Nutritional Effects on Growth. They are available individually. The books are handsomely bound and nicely printed in double-column style. They contain more than 1600 pages and could have been produced as one volume, thus reducing cost, perhaps by half, but separate volumes make for easy handling, without uncomfortable weight.
