Currently, most of waste collection systems are static, which are inefficient and expensive. Performing dynamic waste collection has proven to be more efficient. In order to implement and sustain dynamic waste collection, a low power smart trash bin is required. This study identifies this problem and proposes an architecture design for smart trash bin systems and an algorithm for reducing the energy consumption of the smart trash bin. According to the results of our measurement, the power consumption of the system is low and its lifetime is up to 5 times longer than the systems suggested in previous work.
