Abstract This study examined the effect of risk management practices on the cost-effectiveness of Mobile Network Operators in the Nigerian telecommunication industry, with emphasis on the moderating role of documentation and reporting. The study was anchored on Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Theory and adopted a descriptive survey research design. Data were collected from employees of selected Mobile Network Operators, including MTN Nigeria, Globacom, Airtel Nigeria, and 9mobile using a structured questionnaire. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with SmartPLS 4 was employed for data analysis. The findings revealed that documentation and reporting significantly improved cost-effectiveness (β = 0.589, t = 16.107, p < 0.001). However, monitoring activities (β = -0.004, p = 0.955), risk assessment (β = -0.057, p = 0.330), risk monitoring (β = 0.012, p = 0.906), and risk mitigation (β = -0.004, p = 0.954) showed insignificant effects on cost-effectiveness. Furthermore, documentation and reporting negatively moderated the relationship between risk evaluation and cost-effectiveness (β = -0.281, t = 4.263, p < 0.001). The study concluded that effective documentation and reporting systems significantly enhance operational efficiency and cost optimization in the Nigerian telecommunication industry.
