Abstract

Agricultural-based food visibility and traceability systems are designed to monitor the production and distribution of food from farm to table. This type of system allows for tracking of food from its origin, such as the farm, to its destination, such as a grocery store or restaurant. It may be employed to prevent the wastage of food, prevent adulteration, and ensure food security. This system also allows for the traceability of food products, so that any potential issues can be identified and addressed quickly. By using a food visibility and traceability system, consumers can be confident that the food they purchase is safe, fresh, and of high quality. The system is designed to provide a real-time view of the food products, their origin, quality, and safety. This system also allows for tracking of the product’s journey from the farm, to the processing facility, to the warehouse, to the distributor, and ultimately to the end user. It also allows for the traceability of all the ingredients used in food production, providing a comprehensive view of the entire supply chain. The research mainly targets tracing agricultural food products using Blockchain technologies. The experimental analysis will be conducted by comparing the two algorithms namely, Consensus and Bitcoin SHA-256. The consensus algorithm used in an agricultural-based food visibility and traceability system can be either a proof of work (PoW) or a Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) consensus algorithm, and lack in security. Alternatively, the Bitcoin SHA-256 algorithm is used to secure various aspects of the Agricultural-based Food Visibility and Traceability System. Bitcoin SHA-256 is used to generate secure digital signatures for digital certificates and to ensure secure communications between the system and its users.
