Metabolic syndrome is associated with diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and many other health conditions. Kidney disease is a common comorbidity, or consequence, of these diseases. We propose a holistic approach to this entity, Metabolic-associated chronic kidney disease (mCKD). As type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), hypertension, obesity, and related metabolic diseases become more prevalent worldwide, it is increasingly important to identify, categorize, and manage mCKD as a unique phenotype. This review explores the causative factors, clinical manifestations, diagnostic criteria, and curative as well as mitigative approaches for mCKD.
