Summary Two cell lines (QIMR‐WIL and QIMR‐FIN) were established from peripheral leucocytes from patients with myeloblastic and lymphoblastic leukaemia. The predominant cells were primitive blast cells. Electron microscopy revealed the presence in each cell line of a herpes‐like virus morphologically indistinguishable from that previously described in cultured Burkitt lymphoma or leukaemic cells of African or U.S. origin. The virus was distinct from Herpesvirus hominis .
