Patients with upper motor neuron involvement, such as that resulting from cerebrovascular accidents, are frequently incapable of performing isolated muscle actions. Although assessment of motor ability is an essential part of treatment planning, manual muscle testing as an evaluation tool is invalid during the major portion of the patient’s recovery. A sensorimotor assessment form based on the motor recovery characteristic of patients with hemiplegia is presented.
