Journal Article Providing Empowerment to the Person with AIDS Get access Patrick Haney Patrick Haney Patrick Haney founded the first AIDS information and referral service in Palm Beach County, Florida, in 1984. Later, he established the Persons with AIDS Coalition, a support network. Following his death on February 6, 1988, the Florida Chapter of NASW honored him with a Special Recognition Award for his work in AIDS education. Palm Beach County has named its 30-bed Special Care Facility for Haney.
