This article describes the design and testing of a computer-based program that administers and scores the California Psychological Inventory. The computer program was designed using Course-writer II language and was administered using the IBM 1500 computer system. Twenty male and 20 female participants were randomly assigned to take the CPI via computer administration or by the traditional pencil-and-paper method. Results indicate a considerable difference between the mean CPI subscale results of the computer-administered and traditionally administered groups, particularly for males. These results are discussed in the light of future research.
