Socialist Organization and Economic Development in China: Latent Consequences for the Aged

The Socialist Revolution has brought dramatic changes in Chinese social institutions. This paper investigates how older Chinese have fared in this massive reorganization of Chinese society. The study concludes that the aged have largely maintained their traditionally high status in both the countryside and the urban sector.
