Controlled Study of a New Inhalant in Asthma and Bronchitis

Isoprenaline inhalant is effective in relieving minor attacks of asthma, but palpitations, dizziness, and headaches can be troublesome in some cases.An inhaler as efficient as isoprena- line, and without such side-effects, is desirable.A new sympathomimetic amine, isoetharine, was found to be as effec- tive as 1% isoprenaline without producing systemic upsets * Medical Registrar, St. David's Hospital, Cardiff.Bronchilator aerosol contains isoetharine 0.6%, phenylephrine hydro- chloride 0.125%, and thenyldiamine hydrochloride 0.05%.Each metered dose delivers isoetharine 350 jug., phenylephrine 70 ,ug., and thenyldiamine 30 Mg. 'Isoprenaline aerosol contains isoprenaline hydrochloride 0.25% w/w.Each metered dose delivers 125 ug. of isoprenaline hydrochloride.'Placebo aerosol contains 64% w/w propellant, 35.8 % alcohol, preserva- tive, saccharin, and essential oils as in both active inhalers.
